"HIPAA: It Doesn't Only Impact Medical Records"

By Tom Dumez, Prime Compliance

Prime Compliance provides a records and information management (RIM) industry specific employee HIPAA training program.  Since 2010, more than 80 companies including record centers, document destruction companies, scanning/imaging companies, data vaults, corporate wellness programs and medical device manufacturing companies have trusted Prime Compliance to provide both training and consulting services.  After a 13-year career at an off-site record storage facility in Grand Rapids, MI, Tom Dumez launched Prime Compliance in January 2013. He is a Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP) and a Certified Security Compliance Specialist (CSCS).  Prime offers additional services such as comprehensive HIPAA risk assessments of facilities and all facets of the operation, company policy and procedure review, company employee handbook review, business associate agreement review, and risk management.  All of these are done with the goal of making customers the HIPAA experts in their marketplace.  One of the most unique features of Prime’s HIPAA training program is that it is done at the facility in front of the most important asset – the staff.  This allows for plenty of interaction between Tom and staff, which is critical for relationship building, questions and answers, and specific customer problem solving.

Prime Compliance is an active member of several industry associations, including Professional Records and Information Service Managers (PRISM) International, the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID), and the Data Protection Association (DPA) and the Medical Waste Management Association (MWMA).  In addition to serving on PRISM’s TG 1 (conference planning) for many years, Tom served on the Board of Directors for PRISM. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the DPA.

Tom has also been a speaker at many events, including PRISM annual conferences and workshops, NAID annual conferences, DPA annual conferences, and also various ARMA and AIIM chapter meetings.
